Call of Duty: Black Ops II: Umsatzmilliarde erreicht

Wie schon seine Vorgänger hat auch Call of Duty: Black Ops II mittlerweile mehr als eine Mrd. Dollar an Umsatz generieren können, nachdem am Launchtag über 500 Mio. Dollar eingenommen wurden. Laut Angaben Activisions hat der Treyarch-Shooter dafür gerade mal 15 Tage benötigt. Bei Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 waren es 16 Tage gewesen, beim Rekordhalter im Filmbereich, Avatar, 17. CoD: MW 3 hat sich allerdings ungeachtet seines damaligen Startrekords insgesamt schlechter verkauft als Call of Duty: Black Ops - und vor paar Tagen hatte ein Analyst orakelt, jenes Schicksal könne auch CoD: BO II drohen.

Einmal mehr betont Bobby Kotick, dass die Marke jetzt insgesamt schon mehr Umsatz erwirtschaftet hat als die Star Wars-Serie und die Harry Potter-Filme an den Kinokassen. (Einnahmen aus TV-Lizenzen, VHS, DVD und Blu-ray werden da mal ausgeblendet dem Vergleich zuliebe.) Eric Hirshberg darf noch anmerken: "In order for Call of Duty to remain the entertainment juggernaut that it is, and keep our fans coming back for more, we need to continue to bring fresh ideas and new innovations to the table every time, while always staying true to what people fell in love with in the first place. That's what we did with Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and that's what we intend to keep on doing. This is an incredible milestone for an incredible franchise, and I want to thank every passionate, talented, committed person on our team who made it happen."
