Bei Call of Duty: Black Ops II wendet man jetzt die in jenem Jahr gelernten Lektionen an, wie der Hersteller jetzt verlauten lässt. So habe man festgestellt, dass jene Premium-Funktionen und das DLC-Auslieferungsprozedere darin resultieren, dass die Community gespalten wird. Activision formuliert das natürlich etwas anders: "What we have realized is that several of the Call of Duty Elite services which are currently only available to our premium members for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are things that would further unite, engage and delight our player community. So we are going to make them free for Call of Duty: Black Ops II."
CoD Elite wird also um einige einstige Premium-Extras erweitert - Zusatzinhalte werden jetzt hingegen in Form eines Season Pass dargeboten, der wie das einstige Abo offiziell 49,99 Dollar bzw. 4000 Microsoft-Punkte kosten wird. Für die 'Dauerkarte' erhält man im Laufe des Jahres wie üblich vier Map-Packs, die andernfalls einzeln mit jeweils 15 Dollar bzw. 1200 Microsoft-Punkten (insgesamt also: 60 Dollar) zu Buche schlagen werden.

Der Season Pass wird laut Publisher möglicherweise nicht auf allen Plattformen verfügbar sein.
